Myanmar exports over 1 mln tons of maize in Q1

YANGON, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — Myanmar exported over one million tons of maize, earning over 265 million U.S. dollars in the first quarter of the current fiscal year 2024-25, the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, the country exported over 390,000 tons of maize in April, over 370,000 in May, and over 390,000 in June.
China and Thailand are the primary importers of Myanmar’s maize, which is exported to foreign markets via maritime trade and border channels, the report said.
Maize is cultivated in Shan, Kachin, Kayah, and Kayin states as well as Mandalay, Sagaing and Magway regions, with three growing seasons, winter, summer and monsoon. ■
